The Old Way...
It was... cut until it bleeds, use some of this and some of that and then wait and see if it worked. In the mean time we needed to try to keep the wound bed moist, free from infection, and protected from further injury. If it did not heal, then it was cut some more, try something different, change the magic dressing and hope it would heal this time. First a toe, then a foot, next lower leg and then above the knee the process never seemed to end. In most cases the life expectancy of the patient at this point is about 10 months. I am certain this is not the life any of us pictured for ourselves or loved ones in their golden years
